Udayana University Strengthens Cross-Sector Collaboration, Pushes Green Transition Solutions Through GETS 2026
Universitas Udayana hosted the Global Environment & Transition Summit (GETS) 2026 in Jimbaran, Bali, bringing together academics, government representatives, and industry players from Indonesia, India, and Japan to advance climate-resilient solutions.
Jimbaran – Reinforcing its commitment to knowledge-based solutions for climate change challenges, Universitas Udayana (Unud) hosted the Global Environment & Transition Summit (GETS) 2026. Held under the theme "Leading the Green Transition: Strategies for a Climate-Resilient Future," the international conference took place in hybrid format on Monday, 24 August 2026, at the Lecture Building, Universitas Udayana.
The event brought together academics, government representatives, industry players, and stakeholders from a range of countries, including Indonesia, India, and Japan. Through this forum, GETS 2026 sought to expand the exchange of knowledge while fostering research, innovation, and strategies capable of delivering tangible impact for both society and the environment.
Cross-Sector Synergy as the Key to a Sustainable Transition
Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Unud and Chair of the GETS 2026 Organizing Committee, Prof. Dra. Ni Luh Watiniasih, M.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized that building a green, climate-resilient future cannot be achieved by any single sector alone — it demands collaboration across disciplines and industries.
"The transition toward a green, climate-resilient future is not merely an environmental agenda; it is equally an agenda for science, technology, education, the economy, policy innovation, and social transformation," she said.
She further noted that research and innovation produced by universities must be directed so their benefits can be felt directly by the public. On that basis, GETS 2026 is expected to serve as a starting point for broader collaboration in joint research, innovation development, and community empowerment.
The Strategic Role of Universities in Addressing Global Issues
In his remarks, Udayana University's Rector, Prof. Ketut Sudarsana, highlighted the strategic position of higher education institutions in responding to global challenges through the tridharma of education, research, and community service.
"Universities hold a strategic role as centers of education, research, innovation, and community service. Through international partnerships, we can produce evidence-based solutions that make a real difference for society," the Rector stated.
He went on to stress that building a sustainable future requires balancing human interests with the preservation of nature — a principle aligned with the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, the foundation of academic life at Unud, which emphasizes harmony among humankind, nature, and the Divine.
According to him, this perspective is becoming increasingly relevant amid the challenges of climate change, declining biodiversity, and the urgent need for a transition to cleaner energy. Universities, he asserted, must go beyond generating knowledge to ensuring its application in meeting societal needs and safeguarding environmental sustainability.
International Support and Participation
Collaboration for GETS 2026 was further strengthened through the involvement of the North Eastern Management Association (NEMA) India. Joining virtually, Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University and Director of NEMA India, Prof. Wahengbam Chandbabu Singh, welcomed the partnership and underscored the importance of universities' role in shaping global citizens who care about environmental issues worldwide.
The event was also attended by several distinguished guests, including the Consul General of India in Bali, Dr. Shashank Vikram, representing the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty; Member of the Bali Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD), Dr. Somvir; Udayana University's Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information, Prof. Made Sucipta; and Prof. Dr. Eng. I Made Joni from FINDER, Universitas Padjadjaran.
